So this term I'm taking Econ 101 with Trimarchi, and I must say, I am not amused. The only reason I took class with her was because it was well balanced in my schedule. This is something I need to stop doing.
I knew class wasn't going to go well when she showed up 10 minutes late on the first day. Apparently, she has a class just before hand in the PAS (I'm in DC, writing this in class) and has trouble walking across campus in 10 minutes. Now, it was the first day, maybe there were a lot of questions. But no, its now the third week & she shows up at a consistent time for each class. Your class finished at 10 to, so that students (& professors) can get to their next class in time. If you have students wanting to talk to you, use your damn office hours, that is what they are for. And if questions aren't the case, get in better shape because the walk from PAS to DC should NOT take 20 minutes.
On top of this, she feels like it is necessary to end class 5 minutes early. Usually I don't have a problem with this, but not when you are already showing up late. this mean I am losing 30 minutes of class each week because Miss T can't show up on time. I want my god damned moneys worth.
Secondly (this is just annoying) she uses the overhead projector as apposed to chalkboard or slides because she is lazy & stupid, respectively. Now, this isn't a big deal, but she writes on the almost blank overhead sheets in an awkward fashion; She holds her hand above the line she is writing on, preventing any coping of notes when she is writing.
Lastly, this makes me want to do horrible things. I've been thinking about complaining to the department about this, but have been too lazy/busy to do so yet.
In some classes, the profs are moving towards online assignments. I have no problem with this. In my PHYS 112 class, we had weekly online quizzes. This consisted of my prof uploading questions to UWACE, and the student body answer the multiple choice. Cool. But not this time.
I have heard the previously the homework is done on a third party website. Example, you buy the textbook, and you get an activation key with it to do your homework online for the term. Although this is low, stopping students from reusing textbooks, it still would have been okay. What we have to do, is buy a textbook, and a different activation key completely unrelated from the textbook.
This activation key is for a website called Aplia. They provide learning tools to students... for $35. Thanks. Oh, I forgot to mention that this is graded. So 10% of my mark, my homework, I have to BUY. Fuck to you. I believe this is solely because Miss T is a fucking lazy ass. She didn't want to do her job & help her student learn by creating homework questions, so she is making us pay someone else to do her job. See my outrage yet?
To make matters worse, I did the first set of practices questions. I cannot believe I had to pay for this. The first question I answered was: What is the label on the vertical axis (of the graph shown)? This was multiple choice people! I'm 3rd year university, I know what the fuck the slope of a line is.
