So yesterday, Lmack told me there was a new trailer out for Halo Wars and I got really excited.
I had mixed feeling about the trailer. It was well done from technical stand point, but it just didn’t give off that Halo-epic-ness that I’m used too. I’m going to blame it on the developer, ES. Nothing against them, but I was expecting a Bungie-class video from someone who isn’t Bungie; kinda my fault.
On the plus side, the trailer really got the plot rolling, yet left so many things unanswered as to not ruin it; a very difficult task to accomplish, and well executed.
After being excited for Halo Wars in 2009, Bungie released the full (or seemingly full) version of the trailer for the new Halo 3 expansion (keep it clean /prepare to drop). Unfortunately I saw it at work, so it was low quality & no sound… Can’t wait till I get home!
The video confirms a few things. First, you most likely play as an ODST, because that is who steps out of the last pod. Second, you have the city SuperIntendent AI guiding you. And Lastly, its official name is “Halo 3: Recon”. Yeah! Mmm!
On the down side, it is to be released in the fall of 2009; kinda far away. The Halo 3 forums are speculating that it will also contain the Mythic map pack, but seeing as how far away it is, seems unlikely.
There is also a debate whether or not the game will be DLC or a stand alone disc. Bungie calling it ‘their next game’ makes it sound big & so a stand alone disc sounds more likely. If that’s the case, it is also more likely not to include the Mythic maps, as Halo 3 has the Mythic map achievements.
It could be like the Halo 2 map pack where the disc just copied all the data to the HDD, but then the disc part is useless (other than transfer speed). My money is on Recon is a game disc, separate from Halo 3, Mythic maps sold separately.
Peace

Well, I'll put my money elsewhere:
Standalone DLC.
They've already got the Original Xbox games available for direct DL from Live, and who better to begin releasing new games through direct download than the people behind the biggest Xbox franchise?
Also a great way to get people buying bigger HDDs. Also cuts down on the cost of games. It's like iTunes, but the file sizes are just getting larger.
I do agree on Mythic coming out sooner though. They wouldn't have given us the achievements already if they didn't want us to use them for a year.
Actually, Bungie cleared up that it will be a stand alone disc, not DLC. Production is DVDs is cheap, & would probably equal the cost Microsoft would charge for the XBL posting. Mythic is coming for Halo 3, DLC, in Winter 2009. The maps will also come with Recon, but will be used for Halo 3 multiplayer. As far as I'm aware, Recon will not have multiplayer.
