Some Things I Just Don’t Understand, Some Things I Don’t Want Too.

Testing…1, 2, 3

I have done a little bit of reading and some not-so-shocking things came to my attention. After reading a note posted on facebook about testing on animals and animal torture, I began to ponder. Now I’m not saying torturing animals is a good thing, but I think animal testing can be. I wasn’t able to immediately find any (nor having the motivation to continue my search) direct cures for diseases that went through animal testing, but I am sure they are out there.

Now you might be thinking I’m an insensitive prick, but think of the greater good. How many thousands of lives will be saved at (possibly) the cost of a few (maybe hundred) animal lives/suffering? If we could kill 10,000 rats and have a cure for caner, what would you do? I know what I would do.

Now animal lovers are going to get all up in paws about that comment. I will say this. I may not be a religious person but God made humans dominate species. That’s not to say we can senseless kill or abuse animals (ie. Hunting prairie dogs with .50 cal sniper rounds) for amusement, but rather for the greater common good.

Chemicals

Next, I had a discussion about chemicals and their effect on humans & the environment. The discussion consisted of me being told why organic foods & the like are a lot better. They don’t make things unbalanced or cause diseases.

Now, I am not arguing that at all, and in fact, I am trying to eat healthier myself. I have recently learned the benefits of whole grains over refined grains, but please consider: How aware of everything is everyone supposed to be? Maybe you can make good food & product (ie shampoo not tested on animals) choices, but can you be aware of everything in life? What long term effects does taking Tylenol have?

Most people aren’t aware that the female birth control pill leaves traces of chemicals (too lazy to remember names or even wiki them) in the users urine, which eventually make it to rivers and streams causing male fish to grow a female anatomy. Would you still drive or take a bus, knowing that the emissions are hurting the environment? Would you buy a solar panel for your house, knowing most electricity comes from coal burning plant (USA more so, I believe). Even wind turbines affect the weather (slightly, in large numbers  wind farms) by reducing the air current. How much does it take to be ‘pure?’

And this doesn’t even touch things like radiation and microwaves. Should we shutdown TV broadcasting & mobile communications?

Food for thought....

P.S. If you are reading, it isn't a personal attack, just my medium to release my opinions.

Probably Insulin is the most directly "animal tested" drug to come to mind for me. As I understand it, basically they cut hunks out of the dogs to see when they died of diabetis. That told them where the chemical came from; then it was just a matter of surgically removing the pancreas (where insulin naturally comes from), giving the dogs a variety of treatments, and seeing when they died.

So, yes, hundreds (thousands?) of dogs were subjected to surgeries, just so that a scientist could see how long it would take them to die and what effects different chemicals had on them.

Banting (the scientist) then sold the patent on Insulin for a single dollar, so that insulin could be produced as cheaply as possible for those who needed it. It's still one of the best treatment options available today.

So, dog killer? Definitely.
Great human being? Definitely.

Animal testing is a double edged sword. I am not saying I am pro animal testing, however yes you are right i think animal testing towards finding a cure for certain disease that are human based is a good thing for us , not for the animals , however i think it is very necessary. However when you have things like laundry detergent and toilet cleaners , or shampoo and mascara tested on animals when there are thousands other ways to test them i think thats wrong. I mean we already know we should stick our hand in clorox so why do we need to test in on animals? wut do we find out from that anyway ?
As for organic or other "health products" yes you are right you can never be totally green in todays society, however my opinion is we can always strive to . If i buy organic is for my own health , and peace of mind knowing i wont be eating chemicals as a side to my fruits. ( hopefully) . As i said even if we cant be totally green we can still try to make a difference. Ill give you a silly example containing Halo seeing as i know it will make a difference with you lol . Say the animator of the game knows he cant make the game completely glitch free cause after all he is human and he will probably miss stuff... he gives up and does not recheck to even attempt t o try to make it better. he sells the game its a flop because of the glitches in the game. However if he is persevering he will go back and little by little he will make the game better and better ...the game is successful Halo 2 ...Halo 3 follows...etc... i dunno do you get what im saying. Like okay maybe that wasnt the greatest example..
say you see a beggar on the street and you give him 10 $ , you know you cant fix his life , but for a couple of hours he will be happy , eating a nice meal and drinking some timmies on a cold canadian night . so for a while that makes a difference. Hopefully the second example makes more sense. Good food for thought though however " some things i just dont understand , some things i dont want to "
